While CBD becomes a significant trend in health and wellness, and more and more products hit the shelves, it can be quite intimidating to incorporate CBD into your very own routine. We want to help make your transition easier by giving you a guide to one of the most popular ways to consume CBD: tinctures.

What is CBD and How Does It Work?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid molecule found in cannabis that is believed to possess broad therapeutic potential. CBD is often confused with its psychoactive cousin, THC, when in reality CBD can actually counteract the psychoactivity of THC.

To understand how CBD works, you must first know and understand the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a vital molecular system for helping maintain homeostasis, or internal systemic balance. The ECS is widespread throughout the body and is made up of three main components: cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoids, and metabolic enzymes.

Unfortunately, the ECS can change and become compromised over time and has trouble maintaining balance. Disease and injury can also play a role in throwing our bodies even further out of balance – this is where CBD comes into play. CBD is a natural reinforcement used to stimulate the ECS. CBD does not bind to receptors in the ECS; instead, it stops the breakdown of our own endocannabinoids, allowing the body to use more of what it’s already naturally producing.

While research on CBD is limited, CBD has been shown to help with the following:

Anxiety Disorders
Arthritis
Epilepsy
Chronic Pain
Autism
Type 1 Diabetes
Migraines
Sleep Disorders
PTSD
Parkinson’s
*Note: CBD is not a cure-all and should be used as a supplement.

What is a CBD Tincture?

A CBD tincture is a supplement that comes in liquid form, typically administered by dropper, and has a strong cannabidiol content. Tinctures can be created by steeping CBD-rich hemp flowers in high-proof grain alcohol, then applying low heat for multiple hours. CBD tinctures can also be made by combining CO2 extract with a carrier oil. Without adding flavors or carriers, tinctures can taste very bitter. The final product should be potent, with a high CBD content and no more than 0.3% THC, to stay compliant with current industrial hemp regulations.

Fun fact: tinctures were the main form of cannabis medicine until the United States enacted cannabis prohibition in 1937!

How Do I Use Tinctures?

As mentioned above, CBD tinctures are concentrated and meant to be used in small doses. Although you cannot actually overdose from taking too much, taking a large dose is often unnecessary for the CBD to take effect.

CBD tinctures are meant to be used sublingually, or dropped under the tongue and held for at least one minute. This sublingual method allows the CBD and other active ingredients in the tincture to diffuse through the tissues in your mouth and right into your bloodstream. By bypassing the digestive system, the compounds reach your system much faster, where they can get to work interacting with the receptors of your endocannabinoid system. After a minute or so goes by, you can swallow any leftover CBD tincture so that the remaining compounds can be metabolized by the liver. When you take CBD oil sublingually, you will often feel the effects within 15 minutes, making tinctures one of the fastest-acting forms for taking CBD.

If you aren’t a fan of the sublingual route, you can also drop the CBD oil into your food and drinks. The only downside to taking CBD oil this way is that it will take longer to feel the effects, usually 30 minutes after ingesting.

It is recommended to take your CBD oil at the same time every day, using the same amount, and record your effects in a health journal. Do this for a week and track the changes you notice. If you feel like you could benefit from more, take a larger amount and again use a journal to track changes. This is how you will find your optimum dosage and optimum relief.

Relive Everyday Tinctures Are Great for Beginners

Relive Everyday products were created with customers in mind, offering several ways to try CBD and making the experience as user-friendly as possible.

RE-LIVE, RE’s signature tincture line is great for those who are looking to start incorporating CBD oil into their daily routine. RELIVE tinctures come in three different strengths: 600mg, 1200mg, and 1800mg. When choosing a strength, keep in mind that higher strengths will be costlier because they are not as diluted, meaning you are getting more cannabinoids. Each bottle includes a useful insert that further explains dosage, as well as a labeled dropper making the tinctures super easy to use.

RELIVE tinctures also come in three great flavors: Refreshing Mint, Watermelon, and Natural. Each tincture is made from premium hemp seed oil, proprietary blend hemp extract, (MCT) fractionated coconut oil, stevia extract, and added essential oils based on the specific flavored tincture. MCT oil is an excellent option because it is easy to digest and might have more benefits when it comes to heart health, obesity prevention, and brain health than other carrier oils.

The bottles are tinted to protect from UV light, and it is recommended that they are stored in a cool, dark place to preserve the integrity of active ingredients and carrier oil. If the tinctures are stored correctly, they will be good for 12-18 months.

RE products are sourced from Colorado-grown industrial hemp and made right here in the USA (which is always something to look for when purchasing CBD products). The tinctures are diabetic and Keto diet friendly, 100% natural, non-GMO, vegan, THC free, and formulated for everyday use.

Why Should I Use CBD Tinctures?

Now that you have a better understanding of CBD tinctures, we will leave you with why we think tinctures are a great place to start.

  • Tinctures are fast-acting, taking anywhere from 15-30 minutes to take effect.
  • You can easily customize your dosage. (If you have 10mg gummies but need 15mg of CBD, it’s easier to take a specific dosage using tinctures.)
  • Tinctures often come in different flavors, making them more pleasant to take.
  • Tinctures can be added to food and drinks easily.
  • Tinctures are easy to consume discreetly throughout the day since they require no prep work and are often in small bottles.
